1.      Tell us a bit about your background and how you came to join ActionCOACH.

I have a diverse background that includes working at Coca Cola for 10 years in various sales channels. After that, I ventured into self-employment by joining a family business as a chauffeur with my father. When the lockdown hit, I took up a role with the NHS as a blood donation carer. Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their life experiences. These qualities led me to ActionCOACH, where I could help independent business owners improve their businesses and overall quality of life.

2.      What advice would you give to someone who is interested in pursuing a career in business development at a coaching firm?

I would recommend reaching out to a local ActionCOACH and expressing your interest directly. Ask them for suggestions on what qualities they look for in a business development manager and then set out an action plan to help you learn and excel at those qualities. Networking and building relationships in the coaching industry can also be helpful in finding opportunities.

3.      What does a typical day as a Business Development Manager look like?

A typical day involves high-energy huddles with fellow colleagues from across the country, where we discuss strategies and share insights. I prepare myself mentally for conversations with business owners over the phone and in person, maintaining a positive attitude and resilience throughout the conversations. I also take time to plan and prepare for the upcoming days and weeks, identifying networking events and other opportunities to meet local business professionals looking to build relationships within their communities.

4.      What’s your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is having face-to-face meetings with other business owners during networking events, bold calls, or even through Zoom calls. I enjoy connecting with people, learning about their businesses, and finding ways to help them succeed.

5.      How do you approach building relationships with clients and identifying their needs?

The key to building relationships with clients is active listening. I make sure to listen attentively and ask open-ended questions to understand their specific challenges and needs. By truly understanding their unique situation, I can provide tailored solutions and support.

6.      Tell us a bit more about Stuart, the person behind the position: how do you like to spend your free time?

In my free time, I love spending quality time with my partner, Charlotte, and my two children, Mia and Luca. Family is important to me, and I also enjoy visiting my mum and sister in Barbados whenever I get the chance. I have a passion for football, water skiing, and traveling to explore new places.

7.      What’s one fun fact about Stuart?

There are too many fun facts to mention! But if there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I’m a social animal who loves meeting new people and having fun.
