This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and it’s the perfect opportunity for us to start a conversation about mental health in the workplace.
With us spending a significant portion of our lives at work, it’s important we feel our workplace is a trusted environment where we feel valued and safe.
And as leaders, it’s our responsibility to create that very environment, one that promotes the mental well-being of all our employees and encourages them to be open about their mental health.
So, how do we do that?
Well, you can encourage social activities in the workplace, helping to build positive relationships among employees. This can help reduce feelings of isolation and improve mental well-being.
Suggest your team takes small breaks throughout the day to better manage their stress levels and recharge their mental batteries.
Regularly check-in with your team. This will help to identify any issues before they become more significant problems.
And promote activities that can improve mental well-being, such as meditation, yoga or other physical activities that boost wellbeing. I know how much I rely on my regular gym sessions to keep me in a positive frame of mind!
By taking these small steps, we can work towards creating a workplace that prioritises mental health and well-being.
