I know some business owners who are driven mad just by the very thought of processes.

Here’s how some of them think:

  • It’ll stifle the way I do business, I prefer to go with the flow.
  • Why put all that time into implementing systems when we are working just fine as we are?
  • We’re a small business, everyone knows what to do so there’s no reason to formalise things.

Well, here’s how I think:

Implementing systems in your business is a non brainer if you want to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability in your business.

But it’s not a case of all systems fit all businesses.

Any decision around implementing systems in your business will depend on your specific goals and resources and it’s worth considering these three factors:

  • The size and complexity of your business: If you have a small, simple business with few employees, you may not need to implement many systems. On the other hand, if you have a larger, more complex business with many employees and processes, implementing systems can be beneficial.
  • Your goals: What are you trying to achieve with your business? If you want to grow and scale, implementing systems can help you do so more effectively. If you’re happy with the current size and structure of your business, you may not need to implement as many systems.
  • Your resources: Do you have the time and resources to invest in implementing systems? Implementing systems can be time-consuming and may require hiring additional staff or investing in new software or equipment.

If you are clear on these three things, and implement the systems that will make the most difference in your business right now, then you are guaranteed to keep the madness at bay while you build a better business.
